Day 4...adjustments

Jan 23

Eli's first day back at work. I know he didn't get much sleep last night, not because Martyn is fussy, but because I have to turn the light on every time I need to feed him. I can lay in the bed and don't have to get up to do it, but still need to be able to see what's going on so I don't frustrated, and so Martyn doesn't get too frustrated either. He's having just a bit of trouble latching on the left side. We're working on it though, it's a learning experience for both mama and baby.
I found I can do the foot ball hold pretty well on the right side and that seems to work well and comfortable for both of us. He just seems so tiny when I do that. My boob is as big as him almost! Milk hasn't come in fully, but it's on it's way I can tell. I'm starting to feel really tender and....huge.

Had my three day check up today (three days home that is, Martyn is 4 days old) with Lindsey. It was cool to see her again too. Martyn has lost his brown fat weight. That's so cool that babies are born with this little bit of fat on the back of their necks and shoulders. It's called brown fat, and is a fatty store that converts to sugar in the first few days of life for babies, while they're waiting for the mothers milk to come in fully. They get colostrum from mama the first couple days until the milk comes in, and don't need a whole lot of it, because of the brown fat.
I love learning things like this about my son, and I love how awesomely he was designed. It's just amazing to me.

Rachel and Bryan came over while Lindsey was still here and brought us all chille for dinner. Man it was good! I wanted to eat more, but Song warned me not to eat too much because it may cause a lot of gas for Martyn, which I did not want to deal with. But it was really good to visit with them. Martyn was a little gentlemen, as usual. Bryan was excited the Packers won the play off game and were going to the super bowl.

It's cool to be able to share the enjoyment of my son with my friends and family who come to visit. I'm glad to have Song and the kids here too for this.
