Day 76...oh nanny!

Apr 5

Well, I met the new potential nanny today. I think she's going to work out great! She's very nice, and had a little baby of her own, that's 3 weeks younger than Martyn.

When I got home, my boy was totally ready for a nap. He fell asleep and I put him down for a nap in the bassinet. He woke up 20 minutes later and I went and soothed him back to sleep. He stayed down for 20 more minutes and woke up, and then would not go back to sleep....even though he was super tired.
He fussed and cried off and on for 2 and half hours. I rocked him, nursed him, walked him around the living room, laid him down, picked him up, sang to him, talked to him, cuddled him....he simply could not be soothed. I tried to burp him, but he was so worked up it didn't do anything. He would fall asleep in my arms for just a few minutes, but then wake back up and cry. Poor baby. I changed his diaper and that soothed him for a little while, but he still just fussed and fussed.
He got so worked up that he finally just threw up all over me. It was throw up, not spit up....like a full cup of yogurt. After that, he finally gave up and went to sleep and stayed asleep. Ahh! Very frustrating, and heart breaking for Mama. I kept thinking "what if he does this with the nanny and she decides it's too much for her....." I know that's silly, but still. I felt so bad for him, because all he wanted was to go to sleep, but for whatever reason he just fought and fought and then got worked into a frenzy.
Actually, I think he's getting ready to start teething soon and, this was the first of many bouts of fussiness. He's been a super drool factory for the last couple weeks. Also, he's still a little bit sick, and congested and the snotty nose could also be a sign of teething as well...no fever though. It seems a bit early to me for teething, but he's almost three months so I guess it's possible.
Dang, he's almost three months. That's just crazy.

He was still sleeping when Eli got home last night. I had called ahead and had Eli pick up some take out because I just got all frazzled in the afternoon from the whole thing with Martyn, and couldn't get my head around making dinner...also, it was Eli's short week so I figured that would be ok. If he had had to work the next day, I think I would have just sucked it up and scrounged something up, but since he didn't have to, I decided we could have take out.
Martyn woke up a little while after Eli got out of the shower, and I handed him off. He was all smiles for daddy, ha! Which actually I was glad for.
It feels so good to watch Martyn interact with Eli, and both of them are super happy. We discovered that he reacts all surprised, and followed up with a big smile if you buzz your lips at him. No laughing yet, but it's still really funny, and super cute! Doing that for a while was our entertainment last night.

We have a date night coming! I set up a test-sit with the nanny lady for this Friday night. We're going to take Martyn to her house, and go on a date for a few hours. That way, Eli can meet her too, and we can see her house (and meet her husband if he's home) and then go on a date, and still get the boy home in time to keep up the bed time routine. We have another test-sit next week too. I'm a little nervous about it, but after meeting her in person and setting this up, I feel peaceful about it. The nervousness is just the first time of leaving the boy with someone other than family.

I'm ready to kick butt this year! Bring it!
