I love days like today.
First of all, Martyn was soo good last night for his first sleep away from home. When it was bed time for mama, even though he was already asleep, and then got woken up for a diaper change and pj's, he didn't protest. In fact, he was happy to just check out the new surroundings while mama got ready, and then went right to the boob to nurse and went right back to sleep and slept soundly for at least 3 hours before waking up hungry, but not angry or agitated, nursed and went right back to sleep for another few hours. I was so proud of him!
Secondly, my mom and dad in law's house is one of MY favorite places ever, and I slept well especially since it was raining all night, and I was soothed to sleep by the sound of the rain on the metal roof...that's probably part of the reason Martyn did so well too. I love spending the night up there though, it's just peaceful. Usually we go for a nice walk in the woods, and I always feel like I get my batteries recharged from all the fresh air....we didn't go for a walk in the woods because they had two feet of snow and I didn't bring good shoes for that, but I still felt like I got my batteries recharged, just from a good visit and enjoying them, enjoying Martyn.
He had his fussy britches once in a while, but I think enjoyed all the newness, and of course Grandma and Grandpa....they certainly enjoyed the heck out of him. Even Larry the dog and Avon the cat were curious about him, though not terribly interested like Sheba was at first....she must have just known that was her boy from mama's belly.
I got some pictures of Martyn next to this baby picture of Eli, a little bit older than Martyn is now, that looks almost identical to Martyn. If you look closely you can see little differences like Martyn's mouth is different, and his ears are different, but other than that, if I could put the boy in the same pose, and clothes, and get him to smile...you would think it was either a copy of the picture, or just the same person. It's kind of amazing to me....I've actually been obsessing a little in my head all day, ha!
It was a good time.
On the drive home, unlike on the drive up there last night, it was perfectly clear and there was a fair amount of traffic, but not bad at all. It was a nice drive. I like it when it's like that on the way home especially because Eli and I always have good conversation when we don't have to worry about feeling tense from driving in bad weather.
I always enjoy visiting with family and I'm looking forward to visiting with my mom and family this week in San Diego. But this first test run visit to Grandma and Grandpa's house was awesome! I'm looking forward to many more to come.
